Happy Valentine’s Day!!!
Sometimes I think Valentine’s Day is just another “Hallmark holiday” meant to help sell more chocolate, jewelry and flowers. But, the world needs LOVE right now, and not just the romantic kind. So, let today be a reminder to show some kindness and love. To yourself. To others. Maybe even a stranger too.
Now, back to CHOCOLATE. LOL.
Chocolate is another Favorite Thing of mine. You feel guilty just thinking about it don’t you? Well, do I have news for you. Research shows that, just like coffee, this guilty pleasure may actually be good for you. DARK CHOCOLATE is low in calories, increases mood and can even help you satisfy cravings. A little chocolate daily can actually support you in achieving your weight-loss goals, too. When individuals take on the approach of complete restriction of certain foods like chocolate, they often end up with just the opposite: temptation, mental exhaustion, self-sabotage, and weight gain.
A 2011 study found that the rich content of cocoa antioxidant compounds in dark chocolate, called polyphenols, could enhance activity of special proteins called sterol regulatory element binding proteins (SREBPs), which are involved in cholesterol metabolism, boosting HDL “good” cholesterol and decreasing production of LDL “bad cholesterol”. So, eaten in moderate amounts weekly, dark chocolate can improve cardiovascular fitness in women too.
Chocolate is one of my favorite things and I love that I can have a little every day. I find it absolutely helps me with cravings, and it’s good for my heart, so why not?!
I may have had more than a little today though. 😋
