For the last few years I have been using and learning about Essential Oils. I am “one of those people” who will try anything first before I pop any type of drug or antibiotic. Don’t get me wrong….I will take them if I can’t get better on my own or with the help of homeopathic remedies, but I would rather try anything else than rely on medicine. I have always believed that the body can heal itself, if treated correctly.
Being the mom of 3 kids, I was introduced to Essential Oils (EO) about 4 years ago at a party…Don’t all great things start with a party? I didn’t know anything about EO, so I went and was pretty blown away by what I learned that night. Essential Oils are organic compounds extracted from plants with healing properties. WHOA! WHAT? This can really work to fight flu, sickness, alleviate pain, headaches, heal skin conditions, help digestive issues, balance hormones, clean my house, etc? I left that night with a purchase called “the alternative medicine cabinet”. I was ready to combat it all! After a few weeks my kids were running from me~ “Get those oils away from me!” Nope! I had to see if these worked.
Well, I’m still buying, diffusing, using and believing in them. I urge anyone to at least give them a chance. Start with Peppermint ~ it helps with headaches and stomachaches. Lavender is another great one, especially if you need help sleeping. Dab some on your pillow, put your pillow case over it or better yet, put it on a stuffed animal in your kid’s room, works like a charm!
One more tidbit that I learned is that although MOST Essential Oils can be used topically, be careful and always consider a carrier oil. A carrier oil is an oil such as coconut oil that you would add the EO to. It helps penetrate into the skin nicely. I have even played with making my own skin cream using Coconut Oil and Essential Oils. My skin loves it.
If you’re curious about the oils ~ TRY THEM! I really think you will like them!!
